Over 50 Worcester street parties planned to celebrate Platinum Jubilee
Worcester residents are planning to come together and celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style – with 58 applications for street parties received by the City Council to date.

Worcester City Council has offered grants to organise community events which mark this historic anniversary. £30,000 has been set aside to fund decorations and exhibitions across the city, as well as a programme of events to remember.
These will include the lighting of a beacon at Fort Royal Park on 2 June, a day of ‘living history’ at The Commandery on 3 June, and a free exhibition of royal memorabilia, including mementos of past royal visits to the city and the Guildhall.
“We look forward to celebrating Her Majesty’s historic 70 years as Queen and want to make it an occasion which everyone will enjoy and remember,” said Cllr James Stanley, Chair of Worcester City Council’s Communities Committee.
“After a couple of very challenging years, we hope these events will help to bring communities back together once again.
Street parties will take place across the city over the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend (2-5 June 2022) – including events at Diglis (WR1), Jubilee Road (WR2), Pinkett Street (WR3), Elbury Park Road (WR4) and Liverpool Road (WR5).
Jubilee Road resident Jackie Peppiatt said: "You can't live in Jubilee Road and not celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! So, because we are so aptly named we are planning an extra special event for the residents and their families.
“We are holding a street party on the Sunday; we'll have bunting and balloons and even a life size cut out of the Queen in pride of place. We are planning to have tables and chairs up the middle of the road and we will all enjoy lots of food and drink to help her Majesty celebrate this incredible achievement. We've also got live music and games planned.
“On top of this, the residents of Jubilee Road are using this celebration as an opportunity to raise money for charity. We’d like to say a big thank you to Worcester City and County Council for helping with the road closure and offering a £100 grant towards the party and what will hopefully be a fantastic celebration.”
Worcester’s Pinkett Street has held 12 street parties over several decades, with the first to mark VE Day in 1945.
Event organiser Susi said: "We really wanted to hold a street party, not only to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, but to get our community closer together again after the pandemic.
“We’re expecting at least 200 people to attend and will be laying on special activities and entertainment for our locals. It’s the first time I’ve organised this event, so it’s a little daunting – but we will make it a day to remember!”
Limited funding is still available to support street parties and community events held between 28 May and 30 June. Community groups can apply for up to £2,000 to help run events, and individuals can apply for up to £100 to help with holding a Jubilee party.
If a road closure is required, the application must be submitted by 5pm on 31 March. Otherwise, the deadline is 5pm on 19 April.
