Homes set for approval in Pershore

A plan to build more homes off a busy road in Pershore looks set to be approved when council planners meet next week.

Piper Homes put forward proposals to build 22 homes at Ford House off Station Road in Pershore and planning officers at Wychavon District Council have recommended the plan is approved when its planning committee meets on Thursday (August 19).

Almost two acres of land has been earmarked for the 22 homes, which would be built opposite Pershore High School, and would be surrounded by up to 196 homes as part of a separate plan by Persimmon if the plans are approved.

A home known as Ford House would be demolished to make way for the new homes.

A report, which will be discussed by the planning committee at the meeting on Thursday, admits the number of homes on the development would make it “dense” but the plan was still of “good quality and appropriate design” and should be approved.

Charles Church Developments, part of the Persimmon Group, was given the green light to build a mix of 196 one-to-four bed homes and apartments on land off Station Road in Pershore by Wychavon District Council’s planning committee in February.

The plan was first put forward in September last year after permission for a nearly five-year-old plan expired.

Council planners gave an initial green light to Persimmon to build 176 homes on the same piece of land, whittled down slightly from the original plan to build 190 homes, in April 2014. The plan was eventually signed off and councillors again agreed to the plan in September 2015 but the planning permission expired after no work was carried out.

The homes would be built on the northern tip of the Pershore North Urban Extension, opposite Pershore High School and Pershore Industrial Estate, as allocated in the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP), and lies to the north and east of the Persimmon homes that have already been built or nearing completion.

The extension of Pershore earmarked in the SWDP includes plans for up to 695 homes.
